This blend is an example of the winemaker experimenting with the influence of Cabernet Franc on the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend he customarily makes from our Dindima vineyard grapes.
Here James has blended this fruit with a small parcel of Cabernet Franc from a neighbouring producer.
The 52/28/20 blend of the three grape varieties is bright and garnet in colour and has started to take on a brick edge in its colour profile as a result of its extended maturation in a variety of fine grained French and Hungarian oak barrels.
The bouquet is simply lovely and complex with a harmonious combination of black cherry, black berries, violet and mince pie spiciness.
For a wine with 5 years’ barrel maturation this wine bursts at the seams with freshness and intensity. The palate is dominated by Morello cherries, black berries with a brier edge and earthy sweetness followed by fresh acidity and chewy tannins.
This wine will change your preconceived ideas about how a wine from Orange will taste after extended barrel maturation. Wow!
